Meet Fiona

When I was growing up, the resources for counselling or hypnotherapy were not readily available. In more recent years, however, when I needed help, therapy was a game-changer for me and helped me through my own traumatic experiences. Without it, I don’t think I would be where I am today. Not just personally or mentally, but also as a counsellor and that’s why I am dedicated to helping you get through all that you are going through.

Counselling is such a personal journey; my own counselling journey started 15 years ago, and I am now a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist in my own right. I’m down to earth and one of the things I have always done well is listen. So, when you are ready to talk, I will hear you.

How Fiona can help you

Counselling is a helping relationship between two people. It’s a form of communication to help people address their issues or worries, and is based on the principle of empowerment.

Each person we see is unique, with their own personal experiences. Everything is confidential, and we will give you the time and space to talk about whatever is on your mind. I will hear you.

It helps immensely if you have a good rapport with your therapist, as I did with mine. That makes it easier to build a trusting relationship with your therapist, which provides empathy and a non- judgmental approach – very important factors to help you on your personal journey – providing a safe & gentle personal space, and the time to explore things at your speed.

What to expect from your counselling session

Counselling provides a safe environment for you to tell your story.

Once you have made contact, we will arrange an initial conversation by phone or video-call to discuss what brings you here. This is a chance for us to listen and understand the things that matter to you. There is no obligation to take things further at this point, and the initial conversation is free of charge.

If you are happy for us to move forward together, we will go at a pace you are comfortable with, using a variety of therapy techniques. In this way, you can establish a good rapport with your counsellor, and have the chance to explore stressful situations or emotional upsets in a safe space where you will be supported on your journey. This may be just to listen, or perhaps help you to see things from a different perspective.

After the initial conversation we will arrange a schedule of appointments to suit you and your commitments. Most clients will opt for weekly or fortnightly meetings, by telephone, online meeting, or in person, and there is no fixed limit to the number of sessions; we will discuss what is best for you as things progress.

What about hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a way to help you through a process of deep relaxation, helping you to change your habits or coping mechanisms.
You have probably seen hypnosis on the TV or on stage. Well, hypnotherapy is not the same as that.

With hypnotherapy you will be aware of everything all of the time, and that’s exactly how it should be. You may or may not remember everything afterwards, but you will hear everything that’s said to you at the time.

Everyone is different; some people can go into a very deep trance and then remember nothing at all, whist others can remain in a light trance, which works equally as well. Some people can drift into different levels of conscious awareness, and may only remember parts.

You cannot be made to say or do anything that you do not want to, and if anyone else gave you suggestions that you morally disapprove of, then you would come out of the trance like state. Also, you will not give away any secrets or be made to act in a derogatory way. Whilst in the relaxed state your subconscious mind will be open to suggestions made to you – providing they are suggestions that you consciously want to take effect.

You will hear everything during the process, and you will be aware of movements and noises. This is totally normal as you will be in a heightened state of awareness during the hypnotherapy process. You will be asked to visualise certain things, feel or hear certain things, but if you can’t please don’t worry; everyone is different so just try to remember, think about, or sense the things that are said to you.

After a hypnotherapy session you may be aware that you are feeling more relaxed than usual, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
